WELCOME to the COUNSELOR'S CORNER!Gigi DeBerg, Springfield School Counselor507-723-4288Business Camp Opportunity for 9-12 GradersMinnesota Business Venture (MBV), powered by BestPrep, is a week-long summer camp for high school students interested in enhancing communication skills and finding career direction. 9-12th grade students attend sessions led by industry experts and motivational speakers, participate in hands-on activities, and live on a college campus. Students can attend MBV at the University of St. Thomas (July7-12, 2019) or St. John's University (July21-26, 2019). MBV gives students a taste of new skills, careers, and opportunities before they graduate in order to prepare them for whatever their future holds. The cost of the program is $150 for the week which includes room and board ($200 after April 19, 2019). Applications are accepted on a "first come/first serve" basis. Financial aid is available. ~Legion Boys State is a practical training program in local and state government in which selected boys participate in actual learning experiences. ~Eligibility includes the following: 1) being a strong leader, 2) ability to get along with others, 3) enthusiasm, with good personality and character, 4) honesty, 5) interest in citizenship training , and 6) having demonstrated good quality in the classroom and community. ~Interested students need to see Mrs. DeBerg for details ASAP.
American Legion Auxiliary Minnesota Girls State Program
June 9-15, 2019
American Legion Auxiliary Minnesota Girls State is a program for young women who have just completed their Junior year of high school. American Legion Auxiliary Minnesota Girls State is a week-long experience of learning about Minnesota government at the local, county, and state levels by their participation in the process. It is a week of intensive study and involvement. The participants will actually organize and participate in the various levels and branches of government. Every girls will hold a government office or will become a member of the House or Senate. The following qualities are expected of a Girls’ State applicant: 1) must show respect for the American flag and be willing and eager to pledge her allegiance to it; 2) may not have participated as a citizen in any previous session of Girls State; 3) must be physically healthy; 4) must have an above average scholastic standing; 5) must be of high moral character and should have strong leadership skills; and 6) should have an interest in government and current events. If interested, please see Mrs. DeBerg by March 15, 2019.Upcoming College RepsThe following colleges will be at Springfield to visit with students and/or parents. Students and/or parents who wish to visit with these college reps need to sign up with Mrs. DeBerg at least two days before the visit. Please note that dates and times are subject to change.
