When should my student stay home due to illness?
Springfield Public School follows the Minnesota Department of Health's (MDH) guidelines and recommends students to be excluded from school for the following reasons:
- If your child has a fever of 100.4 or more, he/she should stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without the use of fever-reducing medications such as Tylenol or Advil.
- If your child has vomited or had diarrhea, they should not return until 24 hours after the last episode.
- If your child has an undiagnosed rash, please contact your child's health care provider prior to sending them to school.
- If your child feels ill enough and he/she would not benefit from being at school.
- If you have questions regarding sending your child to school, please contact someone in the Health Service office.
-
What if my student becomes ill during school?
If a student becomes ill during the school day, the student is instructed to report to the Health Service office for assistance and evaluation. If it becomes necessary for the student to leave, Health Service staff will contact the parent/guardian in order for the student to be excused. It is not appropriate for a student to contact their parent/guardian to arrange to be excused from school without being evaluated by the Health Service staff first.
-
What if a student has medications that need to be administered during the school day?
Students that need medication at school, prescription or non-prescription, must be administered according to the school district medication administration policy. Parents must bring properly labeled medication containers to the school and have a Consent for the Administration of Medication During the School Day completed and signed by the parent/guardian, health care provider (prescription medication) and the school nurse in order for their child to receive medication at school. This includes medication such as inhalers and epi-pens.

What immunizations does my student need?
Minnesota Immunization Law requires that in order for a student to be enrolled in school a parent/guardian must show that they have received immunizations or have an exemption. Please visit the link below for more information regarding required immunizations.
